Getting Started

What is NXG Collective?

NXG Collective is a vetting-gated platform for tech professionals. Members get a verified professional identity, a searchable directory of other vetted engineers, teams, a project showcase, a bounty board, a technical blog, code snippets and direct messaging.

The idea is simple: membership is earned, not bought. Everyone you meet inside has been reviewed, so the signal is high and the noise is low.

For everyone
Who is it for?

Working and aspiring professionals across software, mobile, DevOps, SRE, platform, data, AI/ML, QA automation, security, blockchain and embedded engineering, anywhere in the world. If you build things and can show your work, you're who we're building this for.

For everyone
I'm a founder or I hire engineers. Is there a place for me?

If you write code yourself, you can join like anyone else. NXG Collective is built around verified engineers, so membership stays for people who build.

A dedicated way for founders and teams to find and work with members is on the roadmap. Meanwhile, published projects, articles and snippets are public, and you can tell us what you'd need through the feedback form.

For everyone
How do I join?

1. Create an account with email, GitHub or Google. That's all sign-up asks for.
2. Look around and set up your profile. It stays private until you're verified.
3. Get verified when you're ready, one of two ways: a quick GitHub check (connect your GitHub account and pick your specialization; about a minute) or a best-work showcase (one project you're proud of, with links and screenshots; about 10 minutes).
4. Most decisions are instant. Once verified, your profile goes public and everything unlocks.

For everyone
Does it cost anything?

No. Membership is free during early access. If paid features are ever introduced they'll be announced well in advance, and the core membership you earned will not be taken away.

For everyone
What can I see without an account?

Guests can read the home page, published blog articles, published projects and snippets, public team pages and a preview of the member directory. The full directory, messaging, teams, bounties and reacting or commenting are for Verified Members.

Applying & Vetting

I just created an account. What happens next?

You land on your dashboard. Explore the directory, projects, blog and snippets, and set up your profile (only you can see it for now). When you're ready, choose "Get verified" from your dashboard or account menu. Messages, teams, bounties, the Network Feed and publishing open up once you're verified.

For applicants
Can other people see my profile before I'm verified?

No. Until you're verified your profile is private: it isn't listed in the directory, can't be messaged, and its address shows nothing to anyone but you. Set it up at your own pace; it goes live the moment you're verified.

For applicants
How does verification work?

There are two routes, and both are mostly automatic.

GitHub check: we score five public signals: account age, original (non-forked) repositories, activity in the last 90 days (weighted most), followers, and whether your repositories' languages match the stack you listed. Strong accounts are verified on the spot once you connect your GitHub account (that's how we know it's yours; a typed username goes to a moderator instead). Borderline ones go to a moderator.

Best-work showcase: you describe one project (what it is, what you built yourself, the outcome, the tech), add links and screenshots, and it's rated out of 100. A strong showcase is verified instantly when it links a GitHub repository with several of your commits, from your connected GitHub account. Everything else is read by a moderator.

A robot never says a final no. A quiet GitHub or a thin showcase just shows you what to add next. Moderators also spot-check automatic approvals.

For applicants
How long does verification take?

Usually seconds: the GitHub check and the showcase rating run the moment you submit. If yours goes to a moderator, your Verification status page says so, and most are decided within a day or two. Waiting for a moderator? Adding a strong showcase can verify you instantly.

For applicants
My best work isn't on GitHub (private repos, company code). Can I still join?

Yes, that's what the best-work showcase is for. Describe the project and what you built, link a live product, store listing, video, case study or code on GitLab or Bitbucket, and add screenshots. Without public code we can check, a moderator reads it.

You'll still need a GitHub username: it's your profile address, and connecting it lets us confirm code you link is yours. A free account takes two minutes, and your work can live anywhere.

For applicants
My application wasn't approved. Can I try again?

Yes. If automated checks want more, you'll see exactly what to add and can resubmit straight away. If a moderator declined it, your Verification status page shows their reason and a "Try again" button.

For applicants
Any tips for the best-work showcase?

Be specific. Explain the problem and who it's for, then what you built yourself: the parts you designed, the hardest problem you solved, the decisions you made. Add the outcome (users, numbers, what shipped). Link the code and a live demo, and add two or more screenshots. About 500 characters each for the first two answers scores full marks, and the rating shows a tip for anything you can improve.

For applicants
Where do I see where my verification stands?

On your dashboard, and on the Verification status page in your account menu (top right). It shows your result, your showcase rating if you sent one, and the next step.

For applicants

Your Profile

How do I edit my profile?

Open your account menu and choose "Edit profile" (applicants can too: it stays private until you're verified). You can change your photo, headline, website, primary specialization, city and country, bio (Markdown with live preview), availability and stack tags, and add milestones to your Impact Timeline.

For everyone
How do stack tags work?

Add one technology at a time: type it and press Add or Enter. Remove one with the × on the tag. Tag changes save instantly, with no need to press Save. You can list up to 20. Tags power directory search and are compared with your GitHub languages during vetting, so list what you actually use.

For everyone
What do the availability options mean?

"Open to Work" means you're looking for a role or paid work. "Open to Projects" means you'd join side projects or collaborations. "Not Currently Looking" hides you from availability filters. Change it any time from Edit Profile.

For verified members
What does GitHub Sync do?

It refreshes your repository count, stars, primary language and activity chart from GitHub. You can sync when your data is more than 6 hours old; when it's fresh you'll see "Up to date" instead of the button.

For verified members
Who can see my profile?

Once you're a Verified Member your profile page is public, so you can share it anywhere. Browsing and searching the full directory is for members. Applicants' profiles are not public.

Directory, Following & Messaging

What does following someone do?

Following keeps members you want to learn from or work with close. Follower and following counts appear on profiles.

For verified members
What is the Network Feed?

Your personal timeline of what the people you follow are doing: articles they publish, projects they ship, snippets they share, bounties they complete, public teams they start or join, discussions they take part in and who they start following.

Open it from your account menu or the preview on your own profile. Filter by type, and look for the "New" markers on anything that happened since your last visit. Activity inside private teams is never shown. Following nobody yet? The feed suggests members who share your stack.

For verified members
How do direct messages work?

Tap + in Messages to message a member, or pick several people to start a named group (up to 25). You can reply to a message, react with an emoji, edit it for 15 minutes, delete it for everyone, share files and screenshots (up to 5 per message), and use `code` and ```code blocks```. Search, pin and archive chats from the list.

In Settings you choose who can start a chat with you (any verified member, or only people you follow) and whether read receipts are on. You can block anyone from the chat's menu; they aren't notified.

Teams

How do I join a team?

Open the team's page and click "Request to Join". Every request is reviewed by the team's owner or an admin; you become a member once they approve. You can cancel a pending request at any time.

For verified members
Why does a team say "Not Recruiting"?

The team isn't accepting new members right now, so requests are switched off. Teams that are recruiting show a green "Hiring" badge. Use the "Recruiting Only" filter in the Team Directory to find them.

For verified members
How do I create and run a team?

Go to Teams → Create a Team. You become the Owner. From Manage Team you can edit details, turn recruiting on or off, approve or decline join requests, promote members to Admin, remove members, and transfer ownership.

For verified members
What's the difference between Owner, Admin and Member?

Owners control everything, including archiving or deleting the team and transferring ownership. Admins can manage settings, members and join requests. Members take part and appear on the team. Every team has exactly one Owner.

For verified members
How do I leave a team?

Click "Leave Team" on the team's page and confirm. To come back you'll need to request again. Owners can't leave until they transfer ownership to another member.

For verified members
What is a private team?

A private team's members and projects are visible only to its members. Others see the team's name and can still request to join while it's recruiting.

For verified members

Projects & Bounties

What are Projects?

Your portfolio on the platform. Each project can have a tagline, tech stack, live and repository links, a rich case study, and credited contributors. Keep a project in draft until it's ready; only published projects are visible to others. Team projects can be edited by the team's owner and admins.

For verified members
How does the Bounty Board work?

Bounties are scoped tasks. Claim an open one, do the work, and submit it. A moderator reviews your submission and either approves it (the bounty moves to Done) or requests changes (it comes back to you with feedback). Only one person can claim a bounty at a time.

For verified members
What do the bounty columns mean?

To Do: open and claimable. In Progress: claimed and being worked on. In Review: submitted and waiting for a moderator. Done: approved and complete. Filter by difficulty to find tasks that fit your level.

For verified members

Blog & Snippets

How do I publish an article?

Go to Blog → Write an Article. Your draft saves automatically every 30 seconds and is private until you click Publish. Pick one category, add up to 4 tags, and optionally a cover image and excerpt. You can unpublish or delete it later from the editor.

For verified members
What's the difference between categories and tags?

A category is the one section your article belongs to, such as Tutorials or Career & Growth. Tags are specific technologies, such as #django or #kubernetes. Readers browse by both, and any category or tag link can be shared.

For everyone
How do reactions, saving and comments work?

Members can react with ❤️ Like, 💡 Insightful or 🔥 Fire, and Save an article to their private Reading List. Comments support Markdown and one level of replies. You can delete your own comments, and article authors can remove comments on their own articles.

For verified members
How are "Top" and "Most Discussed" decided?

Top ranks articles by total reactions. Most Discussed ranks by number of comments. Latest is newest first.

For everyone
What are Snippets?

Short, syntax-highlighted pieces of code worth sharing: a clever query, a config, a helper. Pick the language, preview it live, and publish when ready.

Account & Security

How can I sign in?

With email and password, or with GitHub or Google. When you sign in with GitHub, its authorization screen names the account that registered NXG Collective with GitHub. That's expected, and we only request your basic public profile and email.

For everyone
What counts as a strong password?

At least 12 characters, mixing upper and lower case letters, numbers and a symbol, and not a common password. The strength meter on the sign-up form turns green when yours is strong enough; the form won't submit until it is. A password manager makes this painless.

For everyone
I forgot my password.

Use "Forgot password?" on the sign-in page and follow the link in the email we send you.

For everyone
How do I change my password?

Open Settings (in the sidebar) and use "Password & sign-in". Signed up with GitHub or Google? Choose "Set a password" there to also sign in with your email.

For everyone
I found a bug or have an idea. Where do I send it?

Use the "Share feedback or an idea" form on the home page. Every submission is read, and early-access feedback directly shapes what gets built next.

For everyone

Privacy & Data

What data do you store about me?

What you give us (account details, application, profile content) and public GitHub statistics used for vetting and your activity chart. We never ask for access to your private repositories.

For everyone
Do you track my location?

No. Location is just the city and country you choose to type on your profile, and both are optional. We don't use GPS or collect precise location.

For everyone
Can I delete my account or data?

Yes. In Settings, under "Help & account", use "Close your account" to email us from your account address, and it will be handled promptly. Self-service deletion is planned for a later release.

For everyone

Early Access & Roadmap

What does "early access" mean?

The platform is live and usable, but still evolving. Features, workflows and policies may change as we build alongside our first members. By joining now you agree to engage in good faith, treat others with respect and stay open to change.
